Finchley

Finchley is located within the North London borough of Barnet and sub-divides into the districts of North, East, West Finchley and Finchley central. Finchley is easily accessible via various London bus routes and the Northern line of the London Underground, with three stops between zones 3 and 4. Although Finchley is predominantly a residential area, all the main sights and activities within central London can be swiftly reached by bus or tube.

Attractions

East Finchley is also close to Hampstead Heath, Highgate Wood and Alexandra Park. There are various picturesque walks between these locations.

Victoria Park is located in Finchley Central, along Ballards Lane, and typifies the spacious elegance of London's many parks.

London's Museum of Jewish Life is also situated in Finchley Central, on East End Road.

Shopping

Brent Cross is Britain's first shopping centre and just a short distance away from Finchley on the parallel northern line branch or, by car via the North circular. The 102, 143, 332, 326 and 643 buses all travel from various parts of Finchley to Brent Cross. Of course, Oxford Street and Camden Market are only a swift tube journey away as well.

Nightlife and Eating Out

Although Finchley is principally a suburban area, there are a number of good restaurants to be found in North Finchley and there are also pubs and bars situated on the main high streets of each district.

Just opposite East Finchley underground station is the Phoenix Cinema, one of oldest purpose built cinemas in UK, which opened 1910 and is now itself often used as a TV and film location, although it still also operates as an independent art house cinema.

Airport

There are five major airports situated in and around London. Heathrow, Stansted and Luton are the closest airports to Finchley; all are easily accessible via public transport and car. Passengers can reach Heathrow in 45 minutes via the A406 and M4, which is faster than taking the tube - estimated train time is around 1 hour and 20 minutes. Luton can be reached by train in as little as 50 minutes, compared to Stansted, which will take around 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach via train. Both airports north of Finchley have good motorway routes, use the M11 for Stansted and the M1 for Luton.
