Cambridge

Cambridge is home to one of the most famous universities in the world. Situated in the heart of England, sixty miles north of London, this historic town has a great choice of buildings and monuments to see, or several nature reserves and parks to visit for a more relaxed Cambridge experience.

Attractions

The University's Colleges are historic and beautiful, and definitely worth a look – there are various walking tours in the city centre that will lead you around the most famous of the colleges. King’s College Chapel, where the King’s College Choir perform on a regular basis. A traditonal punting trip on the River Cam will show you Cambridge from a different angle, and there are a number of different trips to choose from. For fine art visit the Fitzwilliam Museum on Trumpington Street, or try out the Museum of Technology on Newmarket Road. The University also has several of its own museums, ranging from zoology to classical archaeology.

Shopping

In the very centre of Cambridge, a market is held each day in the market square. In Central Square you can find many small, independent shops selling various goods such as CDs and books. The slightly more conventional Harvard Square is home to high street stores but maintains some exclusivity by the presence of more independent stores. For antiques and collectibles, head towards Porter Square. Cambridgeshire Galleria is a precinct predominantly filled with departmental stores.

Nightlife and Eating out

The student population in Cambridge means that while there are a great deal of takeaways, restaurants are less prevalent, although there are several good Italian restaurants. There are also a large number of tradition English pubs – 112 to be precise! For entertainment, try visiting the Cambridge Corn Exchange where a whole host of gigs, comedy nights and other forms of entertainment.

Airport

Cambridge is thirty miles north of Stansted Airport, and forty miles north-east of Luton Airport. Both are major London airports, offering an extensive range of destinations, both domestic and international.
