Bulawayo

With a population of over 1 million, Bulawayo is the vibrant capital of Matabeleland and the second largest city in Zimbabwe. If you're heading to Matobo Hills National Park, Victoria Falls, Harare or Hwange National Park, you are likely to pass through Bulawayo as it is ideally situated on the road major road network.

Language and Currency

Although there are 16 languages spoken within Zimbabwe, the three official languages of English, Shona and Ndebele are most widely spoken.

The Zimbabwe Dollar - ZWD - is the chosen currency.

Attractions

Most notable would be the museums that Bulawayo has to offer. Popular choices include The Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe encompassing the rich history of the country, Bulawayo’s National Gallery is a branch of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe and for train enthusiasts, why not check out the Railway Museum which is home to the personal railway coach of colonial mastermind Cecil Rhodes.

If you prefer being outside, how about a visit to The Mazwi Nature Reserve, for a walk or drive, or The Matobo Hills National Park just 30 minutes from the city and is one of the best places to see White Rhinos! Speaking of animals, a trip to The Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage and Research Centre comes highly recommended - a sanctuary created especially orphaned and sick animals to be rehabilitated.

Nightlife and Eating Out

Bulaway has a great selection of restaurants, bars and cafes around the city, offering an eclectic mix of African and Western inspired cuisine.

The nightlife scene is a buzzing mix of local establishments and big names; EDEN and Vision reside in the busy streets alongside traditional African 'pubs'.
