Your Comments on Odessa, Ukraine
I have visited Odessa 5 times, and will visit again soon. I visited from Australia as tourist. I found the city very attractive, the people mostly friendly and helpful, and many good restaurants. The shops provide good choices, but many are overpriced compared wit other European cities. Once or twice at night we did not feel very secure. There is concern about criminal groups, and the role of the Russian mafia, and police corruption. I think this reputation does create fear and would deter many European tourists. I hope the city retains its architectural, and historic character, and does not fall prey to the power of big Developers. Then it would be like any other "western" city, which would be a disaster. Tourist information, in English, would be helpful, plus a guide to accommodation.
