Vancouver airport is very close to downtown Vancouver, maybe 20 minutes by car. The airport is extremely modern, I guess due to the recent Olympics. In any case you will want to hire a decent size car as like the Americans the Canadians drive quite large cars and frankly you will not easily be seen in a little 1.2 litre hatch. Also note that old Sat Navs do not work so well, there were lots of roads and highways put in for the Olympics so get up to date software. Think about getting car hire excess insurance before you also, it will save you a bundle.
