Most visitors to Bury town centre come for its famous 600-year old market, held three times a week. Built on an industrial cotton heritage, Bury is boarded by the Pennines and the picturesque hillside towns of Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall are easily accessible.
Attractions
Bury Art Gallery and Museum has an interesting collection of Victorian paintings and contemporary art. For outdoor visual culture, follow the Irwell Sculpture Trail, the largest guided walk of its kind in North West England.
Remember the borough’s steam heritage with a journey onboard the East Lancashire Railway. The trip starts from Bury town centre and ends at the lovely town of Rawtenstall.
The Lancashire Fusiliers Museum and the Castlecroft Transport Museum' are both easily accessible. Notice the statue of the British ex-Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel, which proudly stands in Market Square in honour of the Town’s most famous descendent.
A short walk from the centre of the town takes you to Burrs Country Park, which hosts the remains of two former cotton mills and outdoor pursuits activities.
Shopping
Do not forget to sample a famous black pudding from Bury’s celebrated market. For handmade crafts and antiques, head to the nearby town of Ramsbottom. High street stores can be found in the Millgate Shopping Centre.
Nightlife and Eating Out
There are many different restaurants, pubs and bars in Bury town centre, catering for all tastes. A short drive to a Ramsbottom is well worth it, for some great hideaway pubs and romantic restaurants.
