Aberdeen

Aberdeen is a thriving, cosmopolitan port in the north east of Scotland. The city is built at the mouth of two rivers amongst some outstanding Scottish scenery with the Grampian Mountains to the west and stunning unspoilt coastline to the east.

Attractions

The city is a mix of fine granite buildings, a historical old town and a busy harbour. There are many attractions for visitors to take in including three magnificent cathedrals; Kings College Chapel at the centre of Aberdeen University in Old Aberdeen; and the distinctive granite buildings of Marishal College and His Majesty’s Theatre. Museums include the Grampian Transport Museum, Gordon Highlanders Museum and McDugg Aquarium.

The charming fishing village of Footdee is well worth a visit, with navigation lamps still lighting the doorways, ships in bottles in windows, poles on the beach where nets hung out to dry and colourful sheds in the village squares.

Other escapes within the city are the spectacular winter gardens at Duthie Park, the Cruickshank Botanic Garden in Old Aberdeen and the formal garden at Seaton Park. There is a wealth of natural, colourful displays at any time of the year in Aberdeen and the city has won the 'Britain in Bloom' competition many times.

Shopping

Aberdeen has bustling shopping centres and a variety of entertainment options. There are a range of places to eat out whether you want to sample native North Sea cuisine or something more exotic.

As well as many pubs, bars and restaurants there are the theatre and several music venues including the informal Lemon Tree or The Music Hall.

Aberdeen Airport is situated 7 miles north west of the city centre and offers easy access to the surrounding area. It is served by flights from throughout the UK, including daily flights to and from London, as well as international destinations such as Amsterdam, Dublin, Esbjerg, Paris and Stavanger.
