Your Comments on Wonju, South Korea
I live in Wonju and it is a nice clean city. It has an express bus terminal which connects all of Gangwon-do. Wonju is only an hour and a half from Gangneung and the sea where you can connect with buses up and down the coast. It has Chiaksan mountain which is accessible by buses no. 41 or 42.
There are two temples on the mountain and it is about 4-5 hours to get to the summit. It is worth the trip. The hike is fun and the view is awesome. Part of the hike is along the cool clear mountain stream which rushes down the mountain over huge boulders and under the canopy of the forest which is full of birds and chipmunks. The hikers are kind and friendly but make sure you bring water and snacks to share but you won't go hungry if you forget, Koreans are very generous to foreingners especially if they think you are hungry or thirsty!
