The attractive northern town of Doncaster is situated in the county of Yorkshire, just 20 miles from Sheffield. It was once a thriving Victorian industrial centre, and in recent years the town has undergone an extensive level of investment and expansion in order to become a commercial hub and leisure hot spot.

Attractions

The austere Conisbrough Castle, with its magnificent circular keep, dates back to approximately 1180 and is one of Yorkshire’s top tourist attractions. .

St. George's Minster was described by Sir John Betjeman as "Victorian Gothic at its very best", and is one of the most striking buildings in Doncaster.

The Dome, situated in Lakeside, just a few minutes from the town centre, houses a wealth of high quality sport and leisure attractions, including 'The Lagoon', which is a 7 pool water world, 'The Ice Caps' split-level ice rink, an indoor climbing wall, and health & fitness facilities.

Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery is located in the town centre and the AeroVenture, an entertaining museum dedicated to flying memorabilia, can be found at Lakeside.

Brodsworth Hall is a grand Victorian country house with over 30 rooms on view and 15 acres of picturesque gardens to explore.

Brockholes Farm is just 4 miles south of Doncaster. Attractions include a working farm, zoo and riding school.

Shopping

The town centre offers a wide range of high street stores and boutiques. Lakeside Village Shopping Centre also contains an assortment of retail and designer outlets.

Doncaster Market is open each Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. With over 600 stalls to explore, visitors are spoiled for choice and quality of fresh produce. The nearby Corn Exchange specialises in craft and gifts and includes a superior wool market.

Nightlife and Eating Out

Copley Road and the Netherhall area are recommended for small independent restaurants. Priory Walk contains a range of venues, from bars to swinging jazz clubs, and the centre of town offers a selection of pubs and bars.

Doncaster Civic Theatre and The Little Theatre provide an array of dramatic and musical productions. There is also an Odeon Cinema is situated in the town centre. Alternatively, the Vue Cinema and Doncaster Bowl are located within Doncaster Leisure Park on Herten Way, near Lakeside.

Airport

Robin Hood Airport is just 5 miles away from Doncaster and serves many European destinations, although there are no internal flights.

Leeds Bradford International is the largest airport nearby and operates internal flights. There are trains between Leeds and Doncaster, which take 30-45 minutes every hour. There is a Metro Connect bus service from the airport to Leeds City Rail Station.
