The beautiful city of Paris is situated in the north of France. It is a historic yet cosmopolitan city. Home to hundreds of restaurants offering cuisine from around the world, stunning architecture, museums, art galleries, and, of course, the world-famous Eiffel Tower; there really is something for everyone here. Whether looking for an energetic break, visiting bars and clubs; or a relaxing holiday taking in beautiful sights and wandering aimlessly around cultivated gardens, it can certainly be found in Paris.
Attractions
There is a great deal to see around the city – no visit to Paris would be complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower. The views of the city from the top are second to none, and definitely worth the climb! Montmartre is a beautiful part of the city, full of street artists and cafes. Montmartre is also the home of the Sacré Coeur, a beautiful basilica, which can be climbed for attractive views of the surrounding city.
Disneyland Paris is an ideal visit for families coming to Paris as well. Other places to visit include the famous Notre-Dame Cathedral, The Louvre and the Palais de Versailles.
Shopping
Paris has an excellent range of shops to choose from on a shopping spree. There are open-air markets such as Marché Buci and Rue Mouffetard, book stalls that line the banks of the Seine, and the famous Rue du Faubourg St-Honoré and Avenue Montaigne for exclusive designer clothes shopping. For those who may find these stores too intimidating or expensive, there are excellent clothing stores on rue St-Placide and rue St-Dominique. Rue St-Placide is the location of several designer discount stores, as is rue d’Alésia. The streets around Montmartre are full of touristy gift shops.
Nightlife and Eating Out
The Quartier Latin is an excellent place to visit for reasonably priced, good quality restaurants. Excellent restaurants are distributed throughout the city, serving food from all over France and the rest of the world. The most popular tourist areas to go at night are the Champs-Elysées and the Trocadéro, as they are home to many bars and clubs, but these can sometimes be overpriced and overly commercial. The same can be said for Bastille – it can get very busy and crowded in Summer so is best kept away from unless you are prepared for a very hectic night. For live music, head towards Pigalle – it has a reputation as the sex centre of Paris but is worth a visit for live bands. The famous Moulin Rouge can also be found here. Younger visitors may prefer the Oberkampf, and the gay scene can be found in Marais.

There are two main airports for the city of Paris. They are: Charles de Gaulle (just under 15 miles north-east of Paris) and Orly (10 miles south of Paris city centre).
