Birmingham
Birmingham is a cosmopolitan city located in the West Midlands. Originally a market town, Birmingham grew and was given city status after its significant development during the industrial revolution. Until very recently, Birmingham was known for its post-industrial sprawl, and was viewed as an unattractive maze of concrete by many outsiders. In the past two decades, Birmingham has undergone a massive overhaul, with attempts to alter this reputation. This has resulted in massive architectural and cultural improvements, and the city is now much more aesthetically pleasing.Attractions
One of the most famous aspects of Birmingham can be found in Bournville, in the form of Cadbury World – this popular visitor centre is the home of Cadbury chocolate and offers visitors an insight into the chocolate making world. For a more cultural visit, try the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. In this gallery you will find an impressive collection of Pre-Raphaelite artwork. You can find a little bit of history in this modern landscape by visiting the neo-classical St Philip’s Cathedral. When trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of this busy city, try out one of the many tours by canal boat on a canal system more extensive than Venice. Birmingham has its own ballet company and orchestra, and performances by these and many other famous acts can be seen at the internationally renowned NEC Arena.
